The victim of a bizarre assault remains in hiding after having her baby toe ripped off with pliers in payment of a $1,000 drug debt. Crown prosecutor Chris White said the assault contained an "element of torture," with the toe removed in an especially horrific manner that was designed to cause "excessive pain and excessive anguish" to the 35-year-old victim.

"It was torn off with pliers — not exactly removed with surgical precision," he said.

After tearing off the woman's toe, Daniel Theodore left her on the side of the road outside Regina, with the parting words: "Debt paid."

Scientists in Italy announced Wednesday that Pierpaolo Petruzziello, a 26-year-old Italian who had lost his left forearm in a car accident, was successfully linked to an artificial limb that was controlled by electrodes implanted in his arm and connected to the median and ulnar nerves. He has learned to control the artificial limb with his mind.

"The 17-year-old told police they had been wrestling while their parents worked night-shift jobs and he'd placed Conner in a headlock until the boy lost consciousness and fell to the floor... The teen then admitted to choking his brother until he was sure the boy was dead... He then placed a plastic bag over the boy's head and sealed it off with electrical tape, dragged his body outside, and then struck his brother's head against the ground before tossing the body in the trunk of a car."
